The Jolly Fat Bloke in the Red Suit

I foolishly promised the girls that I would take them to visit Santa last week. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a day when I was feeling very crummy, but we went anyway, and the girls had a lovely time. They were very funny - Lily was busy telling Santa that yes, she had been good, and she’d like all these things please; while Sophie was standing as far away from his as she possibly could!

Sophie freaking out on the train ride:

Waiting for the talking duck to start talking again:

“I want to go home, Mummy.”

Lily admiring the wild animals and the singing tree:

Waiting impatiently for the only other two people in the whole place to have their turn with Santa:

He he he:

I love the way this shot looks like it’s whizzing about really quickly… because it so wasn’t!

Let It Snow!

We’ve had a couple of lovely snowy days, so the weekend has been spent practically hibernating in the living room, with the occasional expedition to make snow men (which didn’t work very well due to the wrong kind of snow) and wander to the shops for supplies. Luckily we are on the main road in the village, so our street has been gritted and is mostly ice free, which means we were able to get into town today for new wellies for the girls. The new ones are pink (sigh) and big enough to wear several pairs of socks - essential for all this cold snow. The forecast is for sunshine but cold temperatures, so we might have a white christmas!

Science Museum

Or “The Crowthers go to the big city, and don’t get lost…”

We loaded up the kids and drove into the big city yesterday, headed for the Natural History Museum to meet up with Vince and Fiona. We managed to get there without getting detoured around endless roadworks (a minor miracle), getting lost, or getting in an argument about navigating. Once we were there, we decided to go to the Science Museum instead (because it was closer to the car, it was cold out, and we’d been to the NHM a month or so ago). It was fab. There is so much more for the kids to do there, loads of hands on stuff which kept the kids, both big and small, happy. Although the cafe is a huge rip-off with sandwiches and drinks for four of us coming to over £20!!! So next time we’ll have to pack a lunch.

Ben!!!! And Kelly!!!

Ben and Kelly came to stay a wee while back. The girls were ecstatic! Kelly patiently read every story they asked her too, and Ben did his magic with the trains…

Squishy’s Haircut

I finally cut Sophie’s hair a couple of weeks ago (I know, don’t nag about the delay in posting…). She hated having her long hair brushed, washed, or put up into bunches, or in her face. It seemed like a loose/loose situation. So I suggested to her that we could cut it short… like Daddy’s. She loved the idea. I didn’t think she’d sit still long enough for a proper hairdresser to do all that faffing that they seem to feel is necessary, so it was a diy job in the bathroom. I think it looks pretty cute! Busy Little Bee

I’ve been a busy little bee lately, what with the photography and now I’m wearing out my fingers making paper stars for a Playgroup fundraiser. But I’ve been blogging a little over at pinkmilkisyummy, so pop on over to see what we’re up to. I’ve got a few cute pics of the girls lined up ready to go over there in the next few days too.

Squeeeee!!!!!

I’m so excited.  And I just can’t hide it….

So you probably already know about me and the photography business. About how I’m supposed to be trying to make a little money from it. And how I’m so shite at actually doing stuff.  [Planning I'm good at.  Love to plan.] Neil finally told me that I could buy the £££££ new camera I’ve got my heart set on once I had made some money from the business.

Well, months and months ago, I agreed to have a stand at an Arts and Crafts fair that Tia was organising.

Last month, Tia had a press preview, so I took along some pictures to display, and took my camera to get pretty shots of all the fab items on offer. (Click here to see the results.) I had a great time, and ended up chatting to a lovely local couple. They invited me, Neil and the girls (whom they’d never met) to their halloween party for some trick or treating, and so that I could network.

So we went to the party, had a lovely time, and I met some other families and handed out a few cards.

Then the fair was last Saturday, so with some last minute action and panicking, I managed to be there and look fairly professional.  I was offering free mini-shoots in the hopes of enticing people to spend some money with me. (And was surrounded by loads of cool stuff - click here to see.)

What do you know? It worked!

My first sale was for one whole print! £7. (That’s “some money”, right? I can get the camera, yes?)

And then another chap rang and wanted three prints of his kids from the session, and would like to possibly book me for a session closer to christmas. That’s £21. (Oh, yeah, I can see a new camera in the not-too-distant future…)

But then! OMG! I’ve just confirmed a sale of a gift voucher for a session! That’s like a proper sale, innit? One of the women I met at the halloween party had shown my card to her friend, and the friend is buying the voucher as a suprise gift for her.

Righto - I’m off to browse online camera shops…

DIY Haircut

I’m in my office, on the computer, when Lily wanders in and says “Mummy, Sophie is cutting her hair.”

Neil and I rush into the lounge to find Sophie, scissors in hand, calmly trimming her hair.  This was the result:

Luckily, she didn’t have time to get too much, but it does now look a little mullet-like on one side.  Nice.

It’s my own fault for no confiscating the scissors after we had the “Please don’t cut Po [the panda bear]’s hair, as it won’t grow back” conversation only 15 minutes earlier.

Memorable quotes

Conversation with Sophie this morning, while she was in the shower with Daddy:
Sophie: I love you too Mummy.
Mummy: Ah, thanks Darling. I love you.
Sophie [holding bottle of shaving cream]: I love this bottle.
Mummy’s feeling of being special vanishes in an instant…

Lily: Mummy, will you miss me when I’m grown up and living in a castle?

Lily’s current ambition is to be a Queen when she grows up. She’s going to have four princesses - Ella, Anna, Chloe and Snow White.

So I’m just a little behind on updates…

So I really need to catch up with posting, as I have loads of pics and things to put up, but for now, I’m just copying from and linking to my other blog, because there are some cute photos of the girls on there.  (Lazy, I know.  Sorry!)

So, on Saturday we went to Ferry Meadows, which is a large park in Peterborough, and the girls had fun in the playground, and then we had a Helicopter Ride!  (Click the underlined link to view the post and photos.)
